I reckon it’s very telling how easily the Cop show replaced the Western as like the default US action genre. Both expressions of the same fundamental worldview just in different settings with different signifiers
I think a lot of stuff about DnD (especially the earlier editions themselves but also just the general assumptions that filtered down to today) makes sense if you realise how much influence the Western had on it. Like once again it expresses the same sort of ideology just with different signifiers; swords instead of sixshooters, knights instead of cowboys, orcs instead of “injuns”
Evangelical Christian leader Russell Moore revealed this week that many evangelical pastors have become alarmed that their Trump-loving congregants have become so militant that they are even rejecting the teachings of Jesus Christ.
In an interview with NPR, Moore said that multiple pastors had told him disturbing stories about their congregants being upset when they read from the famous “Sermon on the Mount” in which Christ espoused the principles of forgiveness and mercy as central to Christian doctrine.
“Multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching — 'turn the other cheek’ — [and] to have someone come up after to say, 'Where did you get those liberal talking points?’” Moore revealed. “And what was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, 'I’m literally quoting Jesus Christ,’ the response would not be, 'I apologize.’ The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn’t work anymore. That’s weak.’”
Moore, who has been an outspoken critic of many evangelicals’ embrace of Trump, argues that this has led him to conclude that American evangelical Christianity is now in crisis.
An overlooked reason why the separation of church and state exists is to keep the church from being corrupted by politics.
Evangelical Christianity has been in crisis for a long time, people have been caring more about getting wealth and political power than what the Bible says for decades at least. Hopefully now Christians will realize the problem is inside their churches not because teachers can’t force kids to read the bible or whatever. Church leaders embraced greed and hate and a desire to control others.
Important to note that ALL trans people are targeted by this ruling. Trans men will be stripped of all chess titles won, which can only be returned to them by “changing the gender back to a woman” (a direct quote from the ICF’s ruling). ALL transgender chess players will be marked as trans in their files.
Not trying to deflect from the blatant and virulent transmisogyny present here. Just giving a bit more info.

When he was asked to be in Jimmy Kimmel’s “I’m Fucking Ben Affleck” video, in which he pulled up alongside them in a car and gave Jimmy a little wink and an air-kiss, when he showed up at the set he looked kind of put out. Kimmel was afraid he wasn’t down with what they were asking. But he just said, “I don’t know, this wardrobe…don’t you have anything mesh that I could wear?”
When he was filming “Witness” he rented a small farm from a friend of mine. At the end of the filming my friend went and checked out the property as usual. He noticed the barn door had been leveled so it no longer would swing open on it’s own. Went into the house and saw the closets had been redone, in the kitchen the cabinets had been replaced and all the drawers now opened really well. Turns out that there were thousands of dollars of work and materials put into fixing up everything at the place.
My friend called Ford and asked him how much he was asking for the work. Ford told him doing that kind of thing helped him relax and stay sane when he was filming. Would not take a dime. Plus he paid for a new water heater and got the sewage system cleaned out.
And he paid rent to live there the entire time.
